SUMMARY:Painting the Landscape in Soft Pastel (3/7)
DESCRIPTION:***Must have taken Introduction to Pastel Painting Workshop or have experience with pastels*** \nThis workshop is designed for artists who want to deepen their understanding of landscape painting and strengthen their technical and expressive abilities. Through demonstrations\, guided exercises\, and individualized feedback\, you’ll explore how to translate the natural world into color-filled\, atmospheric pastel paintings. \nWe’ll focus on: \n\nBuilding strong compositions that lead the viewer through the scene\nUsing value and color to create depth\, mood\, and believable space\nDeveloping natural textures for a variety of landscape elements through specific layering and mark‑making techniques\n\nStudents will work from reference photos or sketches\, with plenty of time for hands‑on practice and personal exploration. Attendees will leave with a handout of the topics discussed in class and a deeper understanding of how to create landscapes that express feeling! \nBring your own supplies or add the optional materials fees when registering to have pastels and/or painting surfaces provided. \nGloves In a Bottle\, nitrile gloves\, paper towels\, and tabletop easels will be provided. \nMaterials List: \n\nAssorted soft pastels with a nice range of values — you may bring your own or add the Materials Fee for Pastels when you register.\n8″ x 10″ or larger pastel surface of your choice for your painting plus a few additional smaller pieces for studies. If you are a fast painter\, feel free to bring more! If you choose to add the Materials Fee for Paper when you register\, an 8″ x 10″ piece of PastelMat or UArt 400 will be provided plus smaller pieces of assorted papers for studies.\nPlease bring your own backing board large enough to hold your painting surface. A drawing board or piece of foam core will work.\nPlease bring your own reference photos for your painting. If you do not have any references\, I will have a limited amount to choose from.\n\nOther Info to Know: \n\nFeel free to bring snacks and drinks and take break times as needed. You can bring a sack lunch or purchase something from a nearby restaurant if you wish.\nYou must register for this class at least 24 hours in advance.\nI will not be able to offer refunds in the event you miss class.
