My art classes are geared towards adults and serious young artists ages 12 and up. Specifics on experience level are listed in each class description.

My studio gallery is located in downtown Bloomington, IL at 105-A W. Monroe St, and parking is available on the surrounding streets and nearby public parking lots and structures.

The Art of Drapery: Drawing or Painting Fabric with Confidence (9/18)

***This class is open to those working in graphite, charcoal, soft pastel, or oil pastel***
Class Description:
Discover the elegance and complexity of fabric in this focused class on rendering drapery. Whether you’re working in charcoal, graphite, soft pastel, or oil pastel, you’ll learn how to capture the folds, flow, and texture of cloth.
Through demonstrations and guided practice, we will explore:
- Strategies for observing and interpreting reference setups
- How to break down complex folds into simple shapes
- Understanding light and shadow to create form
- Techniques for suggesting texture
Emphasis is placed on ample painting time and individualized feedback.
Materials List:
Your choice of drawing or painting medium along with appropriate materials.
Paper or other surfaces of your choice for your chosen medium(s).
We will work from still life set ups, but you may also choose to bring reference photos.
Please bring your own backing board large enough to hold your painting/drawing surface. A drawing board or piece of foam core will work.
Gloves In a Bottle, nitrile gloves, paper towels, and tabletop easels will be provided.
Other Info to Know:
- Feel free to bring snacks and drinks and take break times as needed. You can bring a sack lunch or purchase something from a nearby restaurant if you wish.
- I will not be able to offer refunds in the event you miss class.
